PhD Project Opportunities

We encourage students who are considering graduate training towards a PhD in Cognitive Science to apply for graduate study at MACCS. Here we provide a sample of projects that PhD students might undertake at MACCS, but we wish to make it clear that prospective students are encouraged to propose and discuss other projects with MACCS academic staff.  The projects are organized into the three current MACCS program areas, Language, Belief, and Visual Cognition, and in a new program area that we are adding, Action.  However, virtually all of these projects are related to more than one of the MACCS program areas.

MACCS PhD students complete four course units during their enrolment. These courses provide training in teaching, delivering research seminars, writing grant applications, writing job applications, and advanced use of web and internet for research purposes. PhD students may submit their PhD either in the traditional format or else as a series of journal articles formatted for publication submission with appropriate introductory and summary chapters that demonstrate the contribution of the PhD to the field.
