Profile
I am a postgrad researcher and teacher in philosophy and cognitive science at Macquarie University. My current research is focused on self consciousness and the self (itself, with Wayne Christensen- although he would not dream of trying to talk Wayne into believing his previous models) and theories of consciousness (with Elizabeth Schier). I have a particular fondness for orang-utans.
I am also a player/coach for the Macquarie University Soccer Club

A cognitive model of self-consciousness
The overall goal of the project is to explain certain aspects of self consciousness by providing models of the mechanisms that elicit them, or by providing accounts of the representations they are identical too. The aspects of self consciousness I am interested in are those that represent the self qua a self, that is as the agent of action or subject of experience etc. The general approach is to attempt to explain how components of the normal sense of self are lost in pathology, and see what model of normal function 'falls out of' such explanations. In addition to studies on pathologies of self consciousness some data comes from normal subjects and from those at risk of developing particular pathologies (especially schizophrenia). The core topics of the thesis are the senses of being the agent of bodily actions, of being the agent of mental actions, and of being bounded in one's body (or embodied).
