This research explores the acquisition of expressions of direction (e.g. English 'towards', 'along', 'through') in young children (2 years old onwards). Attention will be paid to how the "grammar of space" grows in along with their linguistic development and how this relates to non-linguistic aspects of spatial cognition. This research will focus on English, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.
